Pathfinder RPG Location - Varisia - Settlement - Roderic's Cove

Besieged by the goblins and bandits of Churlwood on one side and pirates on the other, the port town of Roderic’s Cove submitted to Riddleport 10 years ago. To everyone’s surprise, both in the town and throughout Varisia, the pirates spared the community, employing it as a shipping and trading port for merchants without the stomach to enter Riddleport. Captain Jess Gildersleeve serves as port-governor, guaranteeing that the gangs of Riddleport get their cut of the local trade while assuring her own sizable take. In the wake of a recent rash of mysteriously scuttled ships in the harbor, many citizens who remember life before the pirates’ rule have chalked up the sabotage to the ghost of Sir Roderic, the town’s founder and a notorious privateer, while those in power blame rebellion and insurgents. With tensions rising, many believe it’s only a matter of time before the battle lines are drawn and Roderic’s Cove erupts in flames of revolution.

Situated on the Varisian Gulf at the mouth of the Chavali River, Roderic’s Cove is a small town that serves as an alternate destination for merchants too nervous to dock at the pirate-controlled city of Riddleport.

Roderic's Cove Overview

Roderic's Cove is a simple town, and even its most affluent residents don't walk around with flashy clothes and items. Most homes and buildings are made from timber, though some of the older homes have a stone-walled ground floor. Gravel made from skells (mostly from oysters) paves the streets throughout town, and a small creek powers a mill and provides fresh water.

People in Roderic's Cove eat well from smoked salmon, preserved reefclaw, hearty crabs, rockfish, and a wide array of oysters. Farms and raches outside of town supplement the town's food suppy beyond the bounty of the sea, and several of these farms are known for their delicious apple cider and blackberry preserves.

The town's leader bears the title of port-governor, but it is not a completely autocratic role. A small council of merchants and priminent citizens provide advice and support to the person holding the office.

While Roderic's Cove is filled with mostly good and down-to-earth folk, a seedy element has increased in the town over the past decade. No major crimes have troubled the town in years, as just about everyone - on either side of the law - has enough to get by, and most just want to get along.
